Introducing: Le Feuillet

Introducing: Le Feuillet

Posted on 23 June 2017

With the tagline "intuitive leather goods", it's not hard to see the design philosophy of Ylan Dahan, co-founder of Le Feuillet along with his brother Davy. Function underpins form, yet form is every bit as important. Every item in the brand's collection is designed based on its function - be it the briefcase or portfolio, or even the simple cardholder. After all, the brand came to fruition when Ylan first created his personal vision of a "pochette à main" , or laptop sleeve, in his workshop - minimalist and elegant in design, able to carry essentials with ease, and of outstanding quality. Drawing inspiration from the aesthetics of urban architecture, the avant-garde nature of the brand brings about a modernity and spirit that many an urban man can identify with. Yet it does not feel overwhelming - understated in fact - because of the subtle presentation through strong lines and soft curves.

The intuitive functionality of their products shine through with small details like the simple thumb hole on the back of the Porte Carte. Le Feuillet takes it further with the lateral, retractable carrying handles on their portfolios, called Pochette à Main as in Ylan's original vision, and Briefcases.

These carrying handles were a result of Ylan's desire to allow "men to carry essentials with ease", which is particularly useful for the man who is always on the move. Holding these exemplary products in your hand then brings you into contact with the finest vegetable-tanned leathers from selected French and Italian tanneries. Smooth and luxurious to the touch, it elevates the leather goods to one of certain luxury. The exceptional leather along with extremely polished zippers are marks of the irreproachable quality the Dahan brothers seek in Le Feuillet's products.

The suedine-lined interior provides a similar luxurious feel in the briefcases and portfolios while providing some padding for the electronic devices they will typically carry. Everything is then put together, piece by piece, stitch by stitch, with the typical French savoir faire (of luxury leather goods) in Montbéliard, France.

Rounding off their vision of making understated and elegant men's leather goods is the conscious exclusion of an exterior logo. Similar to a certain well-known sneaker brand, the goods are simply marked by a laser-engraved numbering that indicates the product type, colour and piece number, allowing the product to speak for itself. Ultimately, it is the manifest distinction of each piece when held that illustrates the philosophy of Le Feuillet.
